Barcelona have reached a full agreement with Manchester City for Rodri, with the Ballon d’Or winner set to return to La Liga in a deal worth around €76.5 million.
The breakthrough came late on Sunday after a week of negotiations. City had rejected two previous bids, but with Rodri entering the final year of his contract and making clear his desire to return to Spain, the two clubs eventually managed to get the deal over the line.
The 30-year-old is expected to travel to Barcelona this week to undergo his medical before putting pen to paper on a four-year contract.
If everything goes to plan, Barca are reportedly hoping to unveil their headline summer signing during the Joan Gamper Trophy in front of the Camp Nou crowd.
Sporting director Deco played a key role in the negotiations, working to bridge the gap between Barcelona’s offer and City’s valuation.
Strengthening the midfield had become a major priority for Hansi Flick following Frenkie de Jong’s long-term injury, and Rodri represents a statement signing.
The Spain international would give Barca greater control in possession, positional discipline and protection in front of the defence, while adding proven experience at the highest level.
