Al Hilal are closing in on the signing of Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli as they continue to strengthen their attack with high-profile Premier League talent.
The Saudi club have agreed a package worth more than €65 million for Martinelli, who accepted the move several days ago. The Brazilian has now been given permission to travel to Saudi Arabia, where he is expected to undergo medical tests before completing the transfer.
Martinelli joined Arsenal from Brazilian side Ituano in 2019 and developed into an important part of the club’s attack during his time in north London. His pace, direct running and ability to operate from the left made him a regular presence in Mikel Arteta’s side and pivotal in the Premier League triumph of last season.
The move comes as part of Al Hilal’s push to significantly reinforce their forward line. The club have also completed the signing of Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa, with the England international joining on a three-year contract.
Adding Martinelli would give Al Hilal another proven Premier League attacker, with the Brazilian offering pace and directness from the left alongside Watkins through the middle.
Martinelli’s transfer is now approaching its final stages, with the medical and paperwork still to be completed.
Unless any late issues emerge, Al Hilal are set to secure the 25-year-old in a deal exceeding €65 million, bringing his seven-year spell at Arsenal to an end.
