Carlos Alcaraz has confirmed that he will defend his US Open title in New York, bringing an end to months of uncertainty over his return to the court.
The seven-time Grand Slam champion has been sidelined since suffering a right wrist injury at the Barcelona Open four months ago. The problem forced him to withdraw ahead of his second-round clash with Tomas Machac, and he has not played a competitive match since.
Alcaraz subsequently missed a string of tournaments, including Roland Garros, Wimbledon, Madrid, Rome, Montreal and Cincinnati. His lengthy spell on the sidelines also saw him slip to No. 2 in the ATP rankings, with Alexander Zverev among those to capitalise on his absence by adding a Grand Slam title to his résumé.
With Alcaraz now set to return, attention will also turn to Jannik Sinner, whose participation in the final Grand Slam of the season remains in doubt.
The Italian has struggled with injury problems in recent weeks and is still dealing with a knee issue, leaving his US Open status uncertain.
