Barcelona have taken a key step in their long-term squad planning, reaching a verbal agreement to sign Croatia international Dominik Livaković.
Under the terms agreed with Turkish side Fenerbahçe, the Catalan giants will pay an initial €2 million for the transfer, with a further €2 million in potential add-ons. Rather than joining the first team immediately, the experienced 31-year-old goalkeeper will officially arrive at the club in June 2027.
The move directly corresponds with the planned rotation of the goalkeeping position over the next 12 months. Veteran Wojciech Szczęsny is nearing the end of his spell in Catalonia, with his contract set to expire at the end of the upcoming season. Following his departure, Livaković will take on the role of backup to Joan García, who is unquestionably first choice between the posts.
By wrapping up the deal for a maximum of four million euros, the club’s leadership secures a quality, experienced alternative without straining an already tight budget.
To keep himself competitively sharp ahead of his arrival at Camp Nou, Barcelona plan to send Livaković out on loan immediately. This temporary arrangement will guarantee him regular playing time rather than having him spend the year on the bench as a third-choice goalkeeper.
Thanks to the good relationship between Deco, Joan Laporta, and the goalkeeper’s agent, Andy Bara, all parties have signed off on the plan; giving the Croatia international a path to continuity ahead of his eventual move to La Liga.
